how to find us

Our Volunteers fly from Johannesburg Airport to Richards Bay Airport (approximately 1 hour flight). We will meet and collect you from the airport. After a 2 hour drive we arrive in Mbazwana.


our location

    •    The heart of the village is 6 km away, and there are food shops, street markets, a gas station, 2 doctors and various other small shops.
    •    The beach is 15 km away.
    •    The Government Hospital is 20 km away from us and is accessible to everyone and free to international visitors.
    •    There is local taxi transport along these routes on a daily basis. The people are friendly and courteous, and taxi transport is readily available.


LEISURE TIME

There will be a lot of leisure time to spend on the beach in Sodwana. The road to the beach is full of restaurants and cafe’s, including outdoor swimming pools. You can play darts, pool, suntan or just relax at one of the various pools. Sodwana is a very popular place for international volunteers to meet.

Other Activities available in our immediate surroundings are trips to Tembe Elephant Park, Hluhluwe National Park and visits to a Cultural Zulu Village.


DESCRIPTION

This municipality consists of about 6000 people, of which 98.9% are Black Africans, 0.4% Coloured, 0.3% Asian and 0.3% White people.
93% of the community speak Zulu, the actual language in our area KwaZulu Natal, only 1.7% speak English.

Sodwana Bay is 15 km away and has one of the most beautiful beaches in South Africa, which is a Unesco World Cultural Heritage Site.
We live in one of the poorest areas of South Africa - but it's hard to beat the beauty here, whether it's on land or underwater.
